Week 2 Task

Angular geometries and kinks in layers break open the monolithic, revealing a liberating space for contemporary ideas. Juxtaposed with changing light, structure then becomes the nexus through which a perspectival lens is cast upon form, stimulating creativity through cast shadows and movement.
Note how shadow is cast upon scenery, creating interesting shapes.
Sequence of shots taken from same angle at different time of day highlights how shadow play gives interactive area different dynamic.
Holistic view. Still having some issues importing into cryengine (for some reason the coloured textured does not fully import through - compared to sketchup model, there are colours missing).
Here is a considered start on Exp 2... More to come - i.e. consolidating environment/playing with water (waterfalls etc.) and ironing out glitches.

  1. Hi Jack, good progress work. as requested

Massing: A bit too over scaled vertically as you now have lost the sense of a cascading form being sliced open and "breaking the monolithic". You have lost the presence of the "slice" on the lower part. Revisit the proportions you had previously but think about the advice in class (stacking the lower level rectangles as unaligned with each other, but maintaining the slice).

Landscaping: Obviously this now would change, look at SE Asian Rice Fields and perhaps Tadao Ando's Rokko Housing for inspiration on how to deal with it in that sort of scale.

Aggregation: Better - but work on the architecture first, then revisit it and post-rationalise to match.

  2. Pros: Love the contrast of geometries and shadows on the upper levels especially. Second image with the form casting shadows back onto the landform as well as the third image showing the same but from a person approaching the monument. Filter that out and think of keeping these effects as you progress.
